I was a little disheartened reading some of the movie reviews for this feature and the overall metascore.

If the camera/lens has a long minimum focus distance, nothing before that distance can be in sharp focus. I guess I'm deciding whether the premium on the new, shiny DSC-RX100 V is worth it.

The Sony is a good choice, and it focuses down to about 2" in wide angle mode, approx. It is also a great size and very portable with all the features you mentioned. I don't know whether you have an opinion on the a5100 relative to the "V" given my indoors, occasional photo shoots, but in my various reading, it seems like I might like either of those. Hey Elsa, Tough choice...again, the interchangeable lens camera will allow more flexibility and grow with you, if you get more into photography.
