Sedating your dog for a flight

Brachycephalic (pug or snub nosed) dogs and cats are especially affected.

sedating your dog for a flight-59

My 3 cats and dog are now in boarding kennels in the wait for our furniture to arrive. Don't forget to freeze a bottle of water for the dog to have in the kennel.

i was just suggesting the acp tablets as they are one of the mildest tablets i have used.i dont reccomend sedation at all but if you had no choice they are the ones i would use because they have a shorter term effect and yes all dogs react differently to different medications so i wouldnt try them unless under supervision or using them prior to flying. My DH works in the airline industry and our dog has flown twice without sedation (and she is a somewhat nervous dog without me!

THis time I rang the vet to get more sedation & they advised us against sedating our dog THis time they have told us they will give us some valium but they would rather we didn't. I'd rather not sedate her as I have noticed in the past that the sedation takes approx 2 days to wear off, but on the other hand I am unsure as to whether it would be cruel not to sedate her.

So, WDYT and what have you done for a plane trip ???? "An animal's natural ability to balance and maintain equilibrium is altered under sedation," noted Dr.

In the past my vet advised us to lightly sedate our dog(more of a relaxant) for plane trips between Canberra & Brisbane (2 hour flight).

The vet told us that plane trips can be very stressful for dogs as the conditions below the cabin arent that great. THis Christmas we are again travelling to Brisbane.(Note: The rules are similar for flying with a cat.But service dogs and emotional support animals typically don’t have to adhere to the same costs and requirements as pets.So we don't ever give him ACE Promazine anymore. If he needs sedation for a vet procedure then we use something else that only works for a short period.Of course, that under-seat space can vary depending on the aircraft, and airlines typically restrict how many total pets are allowed per flight — which is why you should check with the airline. Traveling with a dog this way, essentially as carry-on luggage, usually incurs a lower fee than if it travels in the belly of the plane.
